About the House
Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, this is truly an opportunity to own a piece of St. Louis City’s rich history. The intricate brick work and abbreviated mansard roof is enough to make your jaw drop, but wait until you get inside! A large center hall is flanked on one side by a library with a fireplace and built in bookshelves, and on the other side by a spacious and very romantic living room featuring another fireplace. The first floor is rounded out by an oversized formal dining room, kitchen & butler’s pantry, and a half bathroom with a high-tank toilet. All rooms feature high ceilings and tons of natural light, thanks to the large windows.
Upstairs you’ll find 4 Bedrooms and 2 Baths in total. The hallway bathroom has just been renovated for your enjoyment, but it may only get used by guests since this home features a Master Suite with its own bathroom.
Gorgeous chandeliers, fireplace mantles, pocket doors, and intricate millwork bring to life the glory of living in an historic home.
About the Garden
The back yard features a perennial Victorian Walking Garden and is paved with bricks from the Hydraulic Brick Company; the beautiful plantings will just “pop-up” for you with little effort on your end! There are 6 beds which flank the center area, each with it’s own breathtaking display. It starts in April, when the first daffodils appear on the fence line in a multitude of shades of yellow and then the blue bells start popping. And then all of a sudden, there is a burst of pink in the NE corner of the yard as the amazing saucer magnolia bursts into action! It doesn’t last long, but is gorgeous! As all of this is happening, the first tulips begin to bring the vibrant red and yellow colors toward the center of the yard as the giant hostas begin to unfurl near the garage. This really starts the beginning of the color burst. The dogwood trees in pink or white add to the perimeter ambiance.
Irises in shades of purple, blue, peach, maroon, and even yellow take over as the tulips fade and return below the surface until next spring. At this time, you can see the big buds taking shape on the 20 plus peony bushes along the fence line and throughout the center garden. This big, beautiful, showiest of the flowers really takes your breath away in shades of light pink, dark pink, white, and maroon. This is a great flower to cut and place in a vase to bring the happy into the home! The roses have also begun to blossom and the big knockout rose bush right outside the back door will bloom over and over until it gets cold out.
With the heat, the lilies begin to blossom. Tall tiger lilies grace the fence line by the garage and an assortment of lilies in many colors will begin to bloom in the center beds. One bed has a pretty field of white daisies too. A crepe myrtle adds visual interest as well as a few rose bushes on the inner corners of the beds.
